Hey Rachel Alvarado here and today I want to talk about this really unhealthy mentality that is so common, especially in December. And you have probably fallen victim to it as well, I know I have in the past. This mentality is the whole, "I'll start tomorrow." Or, in December, it becomes "I'll start January 1st." And this is so unhealthy. It's unhealthy for a couple of reasons.
First of all, it sets up this whole green light to start making all these unhealthy choices right now that leave us feeling miserable, emotionally and physically. And it also makes making healthier decisions later on more difficult. And secondly, and most importantly, it creates this binary perspective. It's this "all-or-nothing" approach. We're either going to make all the healthy choices or none at all. That's going to move you further away from your goal every time. So this sets up this idea that we will be perfect come tomorrow or January 1st.
No one's perfect. It's never going to happen. And so once you make one mistake, then it's throw in the towel, what the hell, give up. Dangerous. This is so dangerous. And this creates yo-yo dieting and you have to stop this. So it's not, "I'll start tomorrow," it's, "What choice can I make right now that will make me feel good? That will serve my body, that will allow me to feel comfortably, physically and emotionally."
And it doesn't have to be big. And it doesn't mean that you have to forgo all Christmas cookies, right? No. What one choice can you make right now? Maybe it's having a salad with dinner or maybe it's having one less glass of wine, going to bed a little bit earlier, you decide. But start right now. Doesn't have to be big, but it has to be now.
I hope this helps and I hope you are making choices that will allow you to feel good now because you deserve to feel good now. All right, take care guys.
