What is a plant-First approach?

It is a gentle approach that slowly guides you into a plant-based lifestyle. Designed for those who have struggled with yo-yo dieting, and often feel powerless when it comes to food, this approach is a non-intimidating way to easily transition into a lifestyle that will offer you optimum nutritional support, so you can live your best life.

People often under estimate the addictive quality of processed foods. In many cases those foods are engineered by manufactures to highjack our physiological preferences for calorie rich foods. These preferences were evolutionarily beneficial, as they would allow us to survive long periods of times between meals. However, the environment we now live in has changed, and we are unfortunately not getting the bulk of our calories from whole-food plant based sources, leaving us vulnerable to food addictions and poor health.

We often believe that we’re the ones failing at diets, but in truth the diets are failing us. Calorie restriction alone will set you up to fail, making you feel worse and sometimes heavier than when you started. The first step is to focus on increasing your nutrient intake. When your body is flooded with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients it can begin to recalibrate, lessening the power of the addictive foods. Once you are giving your body the nutritional support it needs, you can ween it off of these unhealthy foods that have held you back.

The process is gradual, and focuses is on nutritional excellence; however a combination of other techniques are used to address emotional eating and food addictions. The other techniques include mindful eating, setting healthy food boundaries, meditation, increasing physical activity, finding joy in our bodies, and learning how to cultivate pleasure in all aspects of your life. The small, gradual steps creates automaticity, preventing the process from being overwhelming, and self sabotaging. It is a multifaceted approach, that starts with simply putting plants first.
