How to Set Goals For Actual Success {Video}

So often we make goals that end up being nothing more than a wish. We don’t have a clear path for how to achieve our goals so we end up coming up short. This leaves us feeling like a failure and it sucks. But it can be changed by changing how we make our goals. This video shows you how to make goals that actually lead you to success.

Rachel Alvarado:
Hey guys. So I want to talk about goal setting today. So a lot of times when we set goals, they are for the future and focused on the end result. For example, a goal might be to lose 30 pounds by August. Great, that's fun. However, you're so much more likely to not follow through with that goal when it's only focused on the end result. Why? Because it kind of becomes abstract. And then you have this long window until August actually rolls around, and so what happens? Well, what happens is that you're out and about, someone offers you a cookie and you're like, "Hey yeah, a cookie. I'll eat the cookie." And this isn't about not having cookies, that's not the point. The point is you're going to give yourself a lot more exceptions and leeway and that's just going to pull you further and further from your goal.

Rachel Alvarado:
But you have this idea that, oh, I have plenty of time to reach my goal. So what is this cookie going to do? And it really isn't about that one cookie, it's about the habits that we make. So instead of focusing on the end goal, focus on the method that's going to help you reach your goal. So it's not about losing 30 pounds by August, it's about only having dessert without added sugar once a week. So maybe six days a week you're having dessert that's apple or berries. You can make really delicious desserts with just fruit. And so that's going to be six days a week and then one day a week you can have your cookie or your whatever you want without its sugar, and so you can have that. So that is going to be a method that you can commit to and that could be a goal.

Rachel Alvarado:
And that is going to be something that's actually going to give you to these end results instead of focusing on this abstract idea of, oh, I'm going to be 30 pounds lighter by August. Well not if you don't actually focus on the method on that's going to get you there. So it could be, I want more energy, but then if you're not filling your body with micronutrients and helping yourself and your body actually be more energetic, then that's not going to help you. So you have to focus on what your method is, and that should be your goal. So whatever your goal is, the abstract longterm goal, the result you want, think about that and think about, okay, how am I going to actually achieve that? And then make that your goal. So maybe it's again, only added sugar once a week, or maybe it's a big salad every single day. You decide what your goal is, but focus on the method and not just the end result. All right, I hope this helps. Take care-
